You just got to say WOW the first time you put your hands on one of these babies.... Thanks to Patrick and www.expansys.com for getting this out right away. :-) ... just in time for CES next month.
It really is amazing to hold. The screen is the smallest around today for any Pocket PC product. It looks to be on the same size as the unreleased MPx. I will be showing this off at the small Theater in the Microsoft booth at CES along with some of the other very cool products that have recently
been released.
Here you can see the relative size of the JAM compared to some popular devices. From left to right is the MPx220, JAM, hx4715 and Dell x50.
I plan on putting this through its paces as this very iPOD looking device becomes my primary handheld for now. In fact a co-worker thought he was looking at a new iPOD the first time he saw it on my desk. I will be looking at an iPOD case holster case. I think I would prefer a play-through case by EBCases.com or Vaja.com however with their magnetic flip covers and slots for SD cards.
So will I be able to live without WiFi integrated or not? One of the first things I am installing is the SD WiFi card. Now you know why I want one of those flip cases with slots.
I also needed to cut down an existing Pocket PC Techs WriteSHIELD to fit the smaller 2.8" screen. I just can't be without the WriteSHIELD and it's superior protection and smooth stylus feel on the screen. I would love to send this over to the guys at Pocket PC Techs to see about getting a 128MB RAM upgrade but I am afraid it might not be ready in time for CES. The good news is with the JAM mini USB sync and charge port it works fine with my existing Lil Sync cable.

I will list the pros and cons here over the next couple of weeks as I use the device
PROS
- small size
- one handed operation is much easier with its T9-like mode and Smart Dial-like applications.
- loud speaker volume for hands free use
- mini-USB sync and charge port
- high resolution camera integrated
- stylus feels great and is very snug and amazingly hidden in its silo
- screen rotation icon on Today screen
- software included is nice combo
CONS
- battery life seems short for such a high capacity of 1200mAh
- the look is kind of "plain jane" but iPOD lovers will like it.
- only two dedicated hardware buttons on the front
- the 1.3 megapixel camera is nice spec but quality is still what you would expect for a Pocket PC.
- the Microsoft bluetooth stack UI is minimalistic compared to Widcomm
